Are you "in" ?

So many events are happening in the world that it takes effort to keep track of it. I for one use, like so many others, the Google news to keep track. There were times when people used to share news in the first half hour in the office. Many would not have read the newspaper and others who had would update. But now every body uses probably the google new service and all of them are updated with the news. Since they assume every body else do the same there is no news sharing.

Then ofcourse we have now Twitter, Facebook and Orkut that allows people to share news tidbits very fast. But the king of them all is the SMS facility on mobile with active use of group SMS.

Many of us assume other keep track of the news. Converstations are carried out under this assumption and until some one dares to ask "What". The other day conversation veered around the smileys with the thought every body knew about smileys that is until one the persons in the group dared to ask "What". The conversation stopped. The questioner was given a hard look and the group dispersed.

The question is are people who are not aware of FB,Orkut,Google,Twitter and those who do not know how to send SMS, use bluetooth etc are not considered "in"?

How many gadgets does one carry around?

Soon the travellers bag will consists of three gadgets.

  1. A mobile phone
  2. A laptop
  3. iPad
It is indisputable that except for the few who do not want to communicate a mobile phone is the personand the person is the mobile phone. So then every one wants to pack a good mobile. Most travellers also pack a laptop. Of course it varies from a bulky laptop to a sleek netbook, but a laptop nonetheless.

Let us for a moment take a look at the air travellers. Once you have boarded the phone goes out of business and the laptop comes on only later. What does one do a long flight apart from trying to sleep or reading? Reading is an option. Put the laptop on and read on. But the laptop soon runs out of the battery. One can carry books. But how many one can carry?

There are mobile e-book readers but how long any one can read from a mobile? Kindle and the like fills the gap. But Kindle can only help read books. That is where iPad comes in. It can read books, see movies, browse the internet. Comfortable screen size. Easy viewing. Many applications expected. A bit big perhaps.

Early reviews suggest a positive feedback for the iPad. Good battery life.
So buy an iPad, pack the laptop in the check-in baggage, carry only the mobile and the iPad for the security. Make your travel light.
